Review of the 2024 documentary How to Rob a Bank:

Porges and Morse are skilled at striking a balance between the requirement for factual accuracy and an engaging storytelling approach. Their ability to communicate a difficult topic in an approachable and captivating way is evident from their prior work on true-crime documentaries such as "Amanda Knox" and "Class Action Park". In the end, "How to Rob a Bank" on Soap2Day Movie is successful in illuminating one of the most intriguing gangsters of the nineties. The tale of Scott Scurlock is one of bravery, cunning, and finally tragedy. A compelling film that delves deeply into the lives of a man who lived on the edge, "How to Rob a Bank" is highly recommended. It's a story about taking chances, getting rich, and eventually falling from grace when you lead a life of crime.

Scurlock's crimes consisted of a string of successive bank robberies that began small but quickly increased in value. He also drew inspiration from films such as Point Break, a fact that is frequently brought up in this documentary through a number of interviews with those who were involved in Scurlock's case as well as others who were both his friends and personal acquaintances. A little more subdued than the true-crime documentaries that audiences may be accustomed to, How to Rob a Bank is much like any other documentary. There is just a man and his crimes, carried out with a little bit of inventiveness; there is no cult, no bodies in the freezer. Nevertheless, seeing this documentary is entertaining and educational.
